San Sebastian College-Recoletos showed the pecking order on incoming NCAA guest team Emilio Aguinaldo College as the Golden Stags overwhelmed EAC, 72-59, on May 21 at the 2009 Nike Summer League at the Far Eastern University Gym.
Jimbo Aquino scored five of the last seven points of the third quarter to give the Stags a 21-point lead, 59-38. This was later duplicated by Calvin Abueva with a tip-in, 68-47, with four minutes to go in the fourth period.
San Sebastian joins Adamson University in representing seniors Group A in the quarterfinals. The Recto-based squad would battle NCAA seniors basketball runner up Jose Rizal University, which went undefeated in seniors Group B.
Aquino led SSC-R with 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Ian Sanggalang had 12 markers and nine boards, while Abueva had ten and nine.
Romeo Fotue topscored for the Generals with 17 points. Jeff Lapitan scored ten markers.
Also playing deciding games today are De La Salle Zobel and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in juniors Group D and FEATI University against UPHSD in seniors Group B. Whoever wins in the juniors matchup will face the first seed in juniors Group A, while the winner of the FEATI-Perpetual Help battle will go up against Adamson in the round of eight.
Another crucial match up is between undefeated Philippine College of Criminology against San Sebastian College-Recoletos at 1:30pm.
Baste ended the first half with a 9-0 run, to lead, 37-24. Aquino put up four points in that rally and Jonathan Semira scored a three-pointer from the wings with two seconds left coming from a Raymond Maconocido drive and kick out.
The Stags then had mini-blasts to work up the gap to its highest going into the final quarter. A Semira trey and two Abueva inside baskets midway of the fourth turned it into a 21-point game once more.
