Far Eastern University and San Sebastian College earned the first two semifinal berths after beating separate rivals in the 2009 Nike Summer League seniors division quarterfinals at the FEU gym in Morayta, Manila last June 8.

The RP developmental team trio of Mark Barroca, Aldrech Ramos and JR Cawaling led an early first quarter binge to post an 89-51 rout of University of Perpetual Help while the Stags survived a sprited comeback by Jose Rizal University for a thrilling 77-75 win.

FEU awaits the winner pitting San Beda College and Lyceum of the Philippines while SSC battles either Letran or Adamson. Both games are slated for Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Shrugging off fatigue due to their stints with the nationals and in the Philippine Basketball League, Barroca, Ramos and Cawaling bannered the Tams early 28-9 advantage in the first quarter and led by a high of 39 points in cruising past the Altas.

Barroca led FEU with 16 points, six rebounds and six assists while the lanky Ramos had 10 points and four rebounds. Reil Cervantes also contributed 13 points and four boards.

Forward Raffy Ynion was the lone bright spot for UPHSD with 15 points and two rebounds in a losing cause as the Las Pinas-based cagers struggled against the mighty FEU lineup.

In the other game, the Stags led by 15 points in the third quarter until John Wilson led a mighty JRU rally.

Wilson eventually helped the Heavy Bombers trimmed down the margin to just three points and was later fouled on a three-point attempt with 3.7 ticks to go with San Sebastian ahead 77-74.

Unfortunately, his heroics was put in vain as he bungled his missed free throw then drained the second foul shot to cut the lead to two. Wilson deliberately bungled on the third charity and grabbed his own miss.

But big man Calvin Abuava came to the rescue as he swatted Wilson's shot on the last second of play to put the Stags out of trouble.

Abuava had nine points and six rebounds for the Recto-based squad. Jimbo Aquino topscored with 13 points, Gilbert Bulawan had 12 markers and Pamboy Raymundo chipped in 10 points.

It was a disappointing setback for JRU, which ended its elimination round assignment with a clean 5-0 mark to lead Group D.
Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas and Letran arranged a one-game showdown for the juniors' division crown after hurdling their respective semifinal opponents.

The Tiger Cubs beat JRU, 81-66, behind 22 points and 13 rebounds from Kyle Drexler Neypes and 13 points from Jazreel Jimenez while the Squires survived a mighty challenge by De La Salle Zobel for a pulsating 83-81 triumph.

Letran's Achie Inigo buried 31 points while Jarelan Tampus also had a big scoring effort with 24 points. Glenn Khobutin, meanwhile, contributed 12 points and six rebounds.

Luigi dela Paz led the Junior Archers with 32 points and seven rebounds while Arnold Vanopstal posted a double-double by scoring 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

UST and Letran will play for the title on Wednesday at FEU gym. Gametime is set at 10:30 am following the battle-for-third salvo between JRU and DLSZ at 9am.
